[ many things have happened to puppy in his long and strange life, for all that he seems to retain a very naive-like outlook in almost everything. he's been caged, literally and figuratively, and he's been killed; both events have left scars on his skin and on his mind, and he's nowhere near self-actualized enough to unpack the trauma he's experienced.
so he's not really coping very well, or healthily for that matter, but he looks hanni in the eyes - those kind, handsome eyes - and clasps hanni's hand with both of his. ]
